Good for J.R. Towles and probably a good decision by the Astros to give Jason Castro some more time in the minors.
His path seems similar to the path of Luke Scott, who had a great spring in 2005 and promptly fizzled starting on Opening Day. He came back and tore it up in ’06, then found a very solid middle range in 2007 for the Astros and continued that in 2008 and 2009 for Baltimore.
If Towles can follow that path, that would fill a big Astros hole offensively and defensively and give Castro time to develop.
