The Astros gave up 609 runs that year, an outstanding number. Only two teams in the 2000s gave up fewer runs. But the ’05 Astros started terribly. In the first 51 games, they gave up 229 runs. In the last 111, they allowed 380 runs, or 3.42 per game.
They were defense before defense was cool.
