Game 4: Cardinals 5, Astros 3

I didn’t see the game, but I read through the play-by-play on Fangraphs. Rough day for Hunter Pence, who struck out with the bases loaded in the top of the seventh and then bounced out with two runners on to end the game. Fangraphs distributes -500 points for a team loss, and Pence got almost half (224) of those. (Players can also get positive points in a loss.)

Fangraphs also shows what pitches players are seeing, and Pence is seeing fewer and fewer fastballs. He saw one in the seventh and none in the ninth. One of his two homers this year came on a fastball, and the other on an 85-mph slider. He’s going to see changeups, curves and sliders until he starts hitting them.
