This seems all very reasonable to me. Two million is a lot in real terms but not by MLB standards. If he performs well, he gets more and everyone is still happy. If he gives them 150 innings at a 4.50 ERA, that will be good. This take on the signing seems to be on the money.
My big concern would be the infield. Tejada’s going to be 35. Wigginton is just OK at third. Matsui is pretty good at second, and Berkman is good at first. These are the guys who will be supporting a ground-ball pitcher.
